Manchester United v West Ham United

Old Trafford
Saturday, December 21, 2013
Kick-off: 15.00 GMT.
TV: Highlights, BBC ONE Match of the Day.
Manchester United (Possible, 4-2-3-1): De Gea; Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Evra; Jones, Giggs; Valencia, Januzaj, Welbeck; Hernandez.
Out: Van Persie (thigh), Carrick (Achilles), Nani (hamstring).
Tests: Rooney (groin), Vidic (knock), Fellaini (back).
West Ham (Possible, 4-3-3): Jaaskelainen; Demel, Tomkins, Collins, McCartney; Diame, Morrison, Noble; Cole, Maiga, Jarvis.
Out: Nolan (suspended), Reid (ankle), Downing (calf), Carroll (heel), Vaz Te (shoulder) Petric (thigh).
Test: Tomkins (groin)
Referee: Michael Jones. Matches: 14, R2 Y43.

Team News Manchester United winger Nani will miss Saturday's Premier League encounter with West Ham at Old Trafford. The Portugal international has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and joins Robin van Persie (thigh) and Michael Carrick (Achilles) on the sidelines. Wayne Rooney could be available after a groin injury as United look to avoid a third successive league defeat on home soil for the first time since 1979.
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce will welcome back James Tomkins for the Barclays Premier League game at Manchester United. The defender missed the midweek Capital One Cup win over Tottenham with a groin injury but is now back in contention. Captain Kevin Nolan again misses out as he serves the last of his three-match ban for his sending off at Liverpool while Winston Reid (ankle), Stewart Downing (calf), Andy Carroll (heel), Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder) and Mladen Petric (thigh) are also absent.
Match Notes The last time Manchester United approached Christmas as far off the Premier League pace as they currently find themselves was during the dark days of 2001, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s planned retirement at the end of the campaign caused a loss of focus and concentration and left the team well off the pace. West Ham’s 1-0 victory Old Trafford in December was the nadir. A repeat of that result would certainly halt United’s recent revival.
Stat of the game: 3 – Manchester United have not lost three successive home league games since Dec 1978-Feb 1979

v

Preview: West Ham

Date, time and coverage: Saturday 21 December, 15:00 GMT. The match will not be televised live in the UK, so follow the action via ManUtd.com’s live blog and MUTV Online’s radio commentary. The game will be shown in full on MUTV from midnight matchday.

Form guide: United start the festive fixture programme of four Barclays Premier League outings in a week-and-a-half having won the last three games across three competitions. The defensive unit has excelled during this good run, keeping clean sheets in the wins over Shakhtar Donetsk, Aston Villa and Stoke City. The Hammers have won just once in their last eight league matches, but the stirring late comeback that knocked Tottenham out of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday will have provided a welcome boost. That said, the east London outfit have failed to score in their last five visits to Old Trafford.

Ins and outs: Wayne Rooney missed Wednesday’s win over Stoke, but David Moyes said the striker “has got a chance” of recovering from his groin injury in time for Saturday. Robin van Persie is out until early January with a thigh injury, but while Michael Carrick is nearing a return to contention the visit of his former club may be too early for the midfielder. West Ham and England striker Andy Carroll is still out with the foot injury that has prevented him from appearing all season, while defender Winston Reid is also absent following ankle surgery. Skipper Kevin Nolan is serving a three-game ban for a red card he received in the recent 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.
The manager: Sam Allardyce was installed at Upton Park in June 2011 and guided the Hammers back into the Premier League at the first time of asking with a play-off win over Blackpool, one of his earlier managerial posts. A no-nonsense defender in his playing days, Big Sam’s other jobs have included spells in charge at Bolton, Newcastle and Blackburn.

Last meeting: A 2-2 draw in east London helped the Reds edge even closer to league title no.20 on 17 April, with Robin van Persie helping to secure a point with an equaliser 13 minutes from full time.

Sub-plot: West Ham will slip into the relegation zone if they lose and Fulham and Crystal Palace pick up points in their respective fixtures.

Did you know? Wayne Rooney has scored seven goals in his last six Premier League outings against West Ham.

Star-man: Former United midfielder Ravel Morrison is the Hammers’ top scorer, with five goals in all competitions so far this season.

Whistle-blower: Chester’s Mike Jones handed out five yellow cards during the only other United match he has taken charge of this term, the 1-1 draw with Southampton in September.

Rivals watch: Liverpool kick off the weekend’s action at home to Cardiff on Saturday lunchtime, while Manchester City’s visit to Fulham starts at the same time United face West Ham. You’ll have to wait until Monday night to discover how Arsenal v Chelsea pans out.

就靠你了。。。

Moyes bans journalist as first step to stop unhealthy Manchester United leaks

David Moyes has banned The Mirror’s David McDonnell from pre-match press conferences at Carrington because he has leaked the correct team line-up hours before kick-off in the past few weeks.

This was the only hand that Moyes could have played because he would not know the identity of the player or member of staff who has leaked the information.

The reality is that McDonnell’s mole will not be affected by being banned from the press conferences as he will still have contact with his source but this is about a statement of power and control from Moyes. It is not an attempt from the manager to censor the press but merely the first thing he could do to try and stop the information from being leaked if he doesn’t know who the leak is.

Sir Alex Ferguson hailed both traits as two of the foundations of his reign and the last thing Moyes will want his players to think is that somebody from within the club can leak private information such as the line-up without there being consequences.

There is a sour undertone to McDonnell’s article aimed at ‘control freak’ Ferguson but the fact of the matter is that a manager has to maintain control over his players. Somebody giving team line-ups before the club wants to announce is clearly a challenge to that power.

Nobody knows who the leak is but it will be interesting to see whether McDonnell continues to publish the team news on Saturday earlier than anybody again.

做得好。。。 就是这样。。。
