The former Manchester United manager's tome is the fastest selling of the year with nearly 650,000 copies shifted since October

Best seller: Ferguson's autobiography has sold 647,000 copies in two months


Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been given reason to celebrate this Christmas with the news that his book is the biggest selling of 2013.

The Scot, who spent 27 years at the helm at Old Trafford, released his much-anticipated memoirs back in October, and after just two months on the shelves, it has already shifted 647,000 copies.

Jon Howells, Public Relations manager for Waterstones, said: "It looks like it's going to be one of the biggest-selling autobiographies since records began and I don't think anybody would have predicted three months ago that would happen.

"It's reaching a readership which is interested in management and leadership as a broader issue."

Ferguson sparked controversy with the release for his outspoken views on a number of former players and rivals. He made a string of statements that didn't sit well with several key United figures including Roy Keane and David Beckham.

He also re-opened his legendary feud with rival club Liverpool. He rubbished the notion that Steven Gerrard is a "top player" despite the Reds captain having earnt over 100 caps for England.

Ferguson also made a bizarre point about Jordan Henderson's running style, writing: "We looked at him a lot and Steve Bruce was unfailingly enthusiastic about him.

"Against that we noticed Henderson runs from his knees, with a straight back while the modern footballer runs with his hips. We thought his gait might cause him problems later in his career."

（英國‧曼徹斯特23日訊）“紅魔”曼聯主帥莫耶斯表示，有5名球員肯定不會在冬窗期間離開老特拉福，其中包括本賽季出場次數不多的香川真司以及坊間與他傳出矛盾的范佩西。

莫耶斯說：“我絕不會說我們需要再補充前鋒，因為我們擁有范佩西、魯尼、赫南德斯和維爾貝克，香川真司在他們身後踢球也很好，所以我們根本不需要。”

英國媒體《每日郵報》指出，莫耶斯這番話基本宣判了曼聯明年1月份冬窗期間不會引進射腳，列溫多斯基、法爾考和卡瓦尼等當今世界足壇頂級前鋒均不會加盟老特拉福。

在鋒線上不引援，並不意味著莫耶斯不引援，尤其是邊路和中場，均是曼聯急需補充的位置。

儘管阿斯禮揚最近幾場比賽表現不錯且收穫進球，但從最近兩個賽季來看，他與瓦倫西亞和納尼的發揮均糟糕無比，至於前主帥弗格森出資1千500萬英鎊引進的扎哈，若不出意外，冬窗期間肯定以租借形式離隊。

曼聯近2億收購盧卡斯

至於那3名邊鋒，曼聯主帥莫耶斯的態度是“可以離開，前提是報價合適”。如果曼聯能夠順利完成對這些球員的清洗，那麼莫耶斯會簽下一名世界級邊鋒。艦隊街披露，曼聯欲出資3千500萬英鎊（約1億8千845萬令吉）收購盧卡斯。

《洞察越位》的獨家消息稱，盧卡斯本就是曼聯感興趣的球員，弗格森執教期間，就曾對他報價，遺憾的是當時曼聯報價未能高過巴黎聖傑門，盧卡斯最終加盟法甲豪門。本賽季，盧卡斯表現一般，為聖傑門各項賽事出場22次，攻入3球和6次助攻。（星洲日報／體育）
